Glasgow Rocks leapfrogged over the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders into joint fifth position with the Everton Tigers in the BBL Championship table thanks to a convincing 82-63 victory over the Guildford Heat at the Kelvin Hall on Wednesday evening. It was the Heat who started the stronger side thanks to a 12-0 run early in the period saw the Heat take the score out to 5-16. The visitors maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the opening stanza to lead 11-22 at the end of the opening quarter. The second quarter saw the game turned around as the Rocks exploded out of the blocks as a Rob Yanders three-pointer instigated a 22-4 tear, in which Yanders scored seventeen of those points, to take the score out to 36-26. The home side maintained their ten point advantage for the remainder of the period and lead 40-30 at the half. In the second half, both sides traded baskets in the early going, but an 11-0 burst from the home side took the score out to 60-41. The Heat bagged a couple of three-pointers as the third period drew to a close, but the Rocks still had the lead at 63-47 heading into the final stanza. In the final period, a 13-4 run for the home side, including six points from Mike Copeland handed the Rocks their biggest lead of the game at 76-53. The Heat valiantly tried to get themselves back into the game and netted ten of the final sixteen points in the contest, but it was too little too late as the Rocks ran out the comfortable victors. Mike Martin led the scoring for the Heat with 20 points, but it was Yanders who led all scorers in the contest with an impressive 30-point haul for the Rocks, including a 60% shooting percentage from three-point range.
